Blepharoplasty

The eyes are most often the focal point of the face and an important aspect of a youthful and attractive face. The eyelids are also important in protecting the eyeball and providing facial expression.

The eyelids may become droopy or baggy due to stretching of the tissues which can allow normal fat to advance to create a fullness or bagging of the upper or lower eyelids. This may occur from genetics (passed down from a parent) or from chronic eyelid swelling, infections, allergies or simple aging.

Cosmetic surgery of the upper eyelids revitalizes the eyes by eliminating extra skin and fat that have developed over time. After surgery that “tired look” disappears and the eyes look refreshed and youthful. Dr Lattman’s extensive training in oculoplastic surgery ensures that the function of the eyelid will be preserved while giving the upper lid a more sculpted and youthful appearance.

Lower eyelid blepharoplasty, removes puffy bags and loose skin. Dr Lattman’s innovative approach to the lower eyelids supports the muscles and skin of the lower lid. This approach which she has developed over years of performing eyelid surgery gives the smoothest and most natural appearance of the lower eyelid without changing the shape of the eye. For the past eleven years, Dr Lattman has been refining her techniques in order to give her patients a youthful, natural appearance.

Blepharoplasty is performed as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia, with sedation if desired. Patients also have the option of having the surgery performed in our office operating room. Most patients find blepharolasty to be an easy procedure with only mild discomfort.

Skin treatments such as laser resurfacing or chemical peels can be performed at the time of eyelid surgery to further improve the appearance of the skin. Fat transfer is also often used in conjunction with lower eyelid blepharoplasty to further smooth contour irregularities under the eyelid.
