Blepharitis and Rosacea

Medical Approach

Blepharitis and ocular rosacea are chronic inflammations along the margin of the eyelid. Common signs and symptoms of blepharitis include:

  • Redness of the eyelids
  • Flaking skin on the lids
  • Crusting at the lid margin
  • Red eye
  • Gritty sensation in the eye

Over half the people with rosacea affecting their skin have some symptoms of ocular rosacea.  People who have ocular rosacea may have red or bloodshot eyes, burning, tearing or the sensation of sand in the eye.  Rosacea cannot be cured, but it can be treated.
