Dry eye is a very common condition. I see patients every day who complain of dry eye symptoms.
Symptoms of dry eye include:
- A gritty feeling in the eye
- Feeling like there is something in your eye
- Itching
- Redness
- Blurry vision
- Light sensitivity
- Excessive tearing
The most common causes of dry eye are:
- Natural aging process, especially hormonal changes around menopause
- Side effects of certain drugs such as antihistamines
- Autoimmune diseases that damage the tear production gland, such as Sjogren’s syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, and other collagen vascular diseases
- Mechanical or neurological problems that don’t allow proper closure of the eyelids
