q & A With Jessica Lattman, MD

What inspired you to become an oculoplastic surgeon?

I loved that I could make such a big impact on how people felt about themselves. The eyes tell so much about a person. It is the first thing that you look at when meeting a person. They convey the overall well-being of a person, emotions, and so many other things.

Cosmetic eyelid surgery can make a person feel better about themselves. Often, patients will come in saying that no matter how much they sleep, they still look tired. They can’t get rid of their under-eye bags no matter what they try…more sleep, creams, exercise, etc. But with cosmetic eyelid surgery, I can give them what they want, a refreshed appearance without looking like they had any surgery.

My goal is always to achieve a natural result. Typically, patients who find me, whether it is through a direct referral from a past patient or on the internet, share a similar aesthetic. I have never had a patient ask to look, “done.”

However, as an oculoplastic surgeon and with my training as a board-certified ophthalmologist, the health and safety of the eye is always my number one priority. I balance my patients’ aesthetic goals with preserving the healthy function of the eyelids.

As an oculoplastic surgeon, I have a unique view of the eyelids. I understand their functions to protect the eye, distribute the tear film, etc. Patients can rest assured that the health of the eye will always be maintained while achieving their aesthetic goals.

My practice is all about combining excellent surgical outcomes with a flawless patient experience. I try to make each step of the process a great experience. From the first phone call to the last post op visit and every step in between. My staff is personally curated and trained by me, from the administrators to my nursing staff, to deliver the highest quality care while keeping the patient experience a #1 priority.

Patients should look at the surgeon’s credentials and should know how often and how many of the requested procedures the surgeon performs per month. You wouldn’t want to get on a plane with a pilot who only flies a few times a month; you want someone who is performing the skill at least weekly and preferably more often. That is why it is important to choose a specialist who concentrates on one body part and does the same or similar surgeries over and over, and has a lot of experience.

I am excited by minimally invasive surgery that gives natural results with rapid recovery.

They can expect a warm, professional, attentive environment. Each interaction with every staff member will be centered around making their experience a good one.
